WITH thousands of patients needing to be processed, seen and treated every day, top-down organisational efficiency and accuracy is a must at IMI’s Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission.
Doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, other healthcare professionals and the admin team all work tirelessly alongside local Iraqi doctors and volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly 24/7.
It’s the camp that never sleeps - for good reason.
Freelance photographer Mustafa Saad (@lion_5 on Instagram) captured a series of action shots from one evening shift at the Karbala medical camp.
Here’s an insight into a typical few hours.
Firstly, our admin team registers a patient using IMI’s Arbaeen EMR system. This involves getting the patient’s name, age, country of origin and their primary medical issue.
The patient is then sent to a doctor, who uses the information recorded about the patient by the admin team to deal with them. They could also potentially be sent to our on-site dentists or specialists.
After a consultation with the doctor, patients can potentially receive a prescription and then visit our pharmacy team.
Patients are coming in more frequently as every 24 hours passes up to the day of Arbaeen. However, our system ensures patient flow is well-controlled and manageable, with separate lines for men and women.
